Speaking at a rally organized by the opposition INDIA alliance in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah owed their positions to Kumar.
“Gyanesh Kumar will be removed from the post of Chief Election Commissioner. Gyanesh Kumar will go to jail,” Gandhi told supporters.
The Congress leader also accused authorities of manipulating elections through electronic voting machines and changes to electoral rolls.
“For years, vote theft has been happening in this country,” Gandhi said, citing several state elections and the 2024 parliamentary vote.
He further claimed that 15% of India’s voters had been removed from electoral rolls following the 2024 election. The allegations have not been independently verified.
Gandhi also criticized economic inequality and the treatment of farmers, young people and
workers.
“The farmer is not getting his rights. The youth are not getting employment. The laborer is not getting his rights, and the entire wealth has gone into the hands of two or three people,” he said.
