Delhi rain: Overnight showers bring winter chill, AQI improves to 133; IMD issues yellow alert

Overnight rain brought a noticeable change in weather across Delhi-NCR, with a drop in temperatures and a nip in the air signalling the onset of cooler conditions.

Late-night visuals from areas around Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and Jamia Millia Islamia showed rain-soaked roads and steady showers as dark clouds covered the city.

The spell of rain also coincided with an improvement in Delhi’s air quality. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 133 in the Moderate category at 4 am on Friday, down from readings above 200 in the Poor category on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi and adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) districts on October 29, forecasting rain and thunderstorms over the next 24 to 48 hours. Clearer weather is expected to return in early November.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi, widespread weather activity is expected across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.
