Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was on Tuesday dragged into a police bus as he led a dramatic protest by the Congress outside the high-security residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s ouster

Rahul was left with a bruised nose and injuries below his eyes and on chest while his sister-MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who too was detained along with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and other Congress MPs, hung from a bus resisting police personnels’ attempt to push her inside.

An outraged Congress made it clear that the detentions will not impact the intensity of their protest and the government has now “made sure” that Parliament will not function on Wednesday.

A surprised government gathered its wits and sent Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh and Home Secretary Govind Mohan to the protest site appealing to the Congress leader to end their protest while promising a discussion on the issue in Parliament.

Rahul rejected the proposal and insisted that they would continue with the sit-in till Pradhan resigned, prompting the government to claim that he has backtracked from a discussion.
