‘You Will Pay a Big Price,’ Donald Trump Warns Iran After Tehran Rejects US Ceasefire Proposal

Tensions in the Middle East escalated further on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran it would “pay a big price” for rejecting a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal aimed at halting the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The warning came shortly after Tehran officially declined the proposed temporary truce, signalling that diplomatic efforts to end the fighting remain fragile as the war intensifies across the region.

Iranian officials confirmed that the country had rejected a proposed 45-day ceasefire plan, saying any agreement must guarantee a permanent end to hostilities rather than a short-term pause in fighting.

According to Iranian state media, Tehran sent a 10-point response through mediators, outlining conditions such as lifting sanctions, reconstruction support, and security guarantees in the region.  Iran also emphasised that reopening key maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz must be part of a broader long-term settlement rather than tied to a temporary ceasefire.

Following Iran’s rejection, Trump reiterated that the deadline for Tehran to reach an agreement remains firm. The U.S. president warned that failure to comply could trigger stronger military and economic consequences, including potential strikes on infrastructure if the crisis worsens.
