Delhi assembly security scare: Masked driver breaches gate, drops bouquet, caught in an hour

A 37-year-old man in an SUV forced his way through the VIP entrance to the Delhi Assembly complex and drove to the porch area, where he got off and put down a bouquet of red flowers before driving away on Monday afternoon, police said.

The man was arrested about two hours after the extraordinary security breach after police tracked the white Tata Sierra with an Uttar Pradesh number to Roop Nagar a few kilometres away.

The Assembly is currently not in session. However, Speaker Vijender Gupta was present in his office on the premises at the time.

Police identified the man as Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Pilibhit in UP. Two other individuals who were present in the car with him were also taken into custody.

Singh entered the complex through Gate No. 2 around 2.10 pm, DCP North Raja Banthia said in a statement. Sources said he was wearing a mask, and smashed through the boom barrier at the gate.
