With Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating a five-storey office on Deendayal Upadhyay Marg, the Delhi BJP on Monday got a permanent address after a wait of 45 years, which leaders said, dates back to the days of Jan Sangh, the party’s precursor. Calling the new building “no less sacred than a temple,” Modi told a huge gathering of party leaders – Delhi ministers, MLAs, and MPs — that a BJP karyalaya should never be measured only in bricks and walls.
“A BJP office is not just a building — it is a strong link between the party and the people’s expectations. For us, every karyalaya is a sacred place, where we work for people. The more empathy and service-mindedness reflected in the decisions made from this new office, the more beneficial they will be for the people of Delhi,” he said. The new party headquarters, the PM said, should embody the party’s character as a “24×7 organisation.” “Our karyalaya should not be known for its facilities but for its outreach. Whoever enters this office will carry the hopes of someone in need. It is our collective duty to fulfill those hopes,” he added.
For decades, the Delhi unit of the party has operated from a single-storey bungalow on Pandit Pant Marg — a makeshift office with a small open courtyard ringed by rooms, tucked between government-allotted residences where space was limited and meetings were often cramped.
By contrast, the new headquarters is a five-storey building that combines modern amenities with touches of South Indian architecture — a peach-beige exterior with glass windows, decorated with tall white pillars.
