Customs seize 484 silver coins and one gold coin at Delhi airport

Customs officials have seized 134 silver coins with apparent archaeological significance among 484 silver coins and one gold coin from two passengers arriving from Doha at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to an official statement, Air Customs officers intercepted the two passengers after they arrived on September 2. An examination of their baggage led to the recovery and seizure of 20.883 kilograms of gold and silver coins, collectively valued at 47.16 lakh rupees in tariff value, for attempted clearance without declaration.

The seized goods comprised 484 silver coins and one gold coin. Of the silver coins recovered, 134 were reported to have apparent archaeological significance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The goods were seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. It said further investigation is underway.
