Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena Friday directed authorities to install anti-smog guns on buildings with more than seven storeys and explore the possibility of placing them on foot overbridges as well to combat air pollution.

Directing authorities not to wait for AQI levels to plummet before initiating preparations, he also suggested that staggered office timings and work-from-home options should also be explored, officials said.

Saxena reviewed the air pollution situation in the city and highlighted long-term and immediate concerns, said officials at the L-G Office.

Responding to the LG’s instructions, the AAP said, “Despite the constant roadblocks created in the functioning of the elected government, the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government…has seen a rapid decline in pollution levels in the city. This was also evidenced by the Economic Survey 2022-2023 recently tabled in Parliament.”

Referring to an IIT-Kanpur study, Saxena said that while road dust as a contributor to pollution had dropped from 26 per cent to 20 per cent between 2018 and 2022, pollution from vehicles rose from 39 per cent to 47 per cent during the same period.
