1st Test Day 1: R Ashwin’s Ton, Jadeja’s 86* Steer India To 339/6 On Day 1 vs Ban

1st Test: R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja produced a great fight after Bangladesh pushed India on backfoot on the opening day of the first Test in Chennai on Thursday. The pair, who came together when India were reduced to 144/6, added 195 runs for the seventh wicket and took India’s total to 339/6 at Stumps on Day 1. Both batters returned unbeaten with Ashwin playing on 102, while Jadeja was batting on 86. The pair had earlier helped the hosts reach 176/6 at Tea. India started the second session from 88/3 and lost Rishabh Pant in the third over. The wicketkeeper-batter was caught-behind for 39 off Hasan Mahmud’s bowling, which was his fourth scalp of the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who showed great resistance and went to slam his half-century, fell for 56 against Nahid Rana. Soon after his dismissal Mehidy Hasan Miraz joined the act and removed KL Rahul for 16, who was brilliantly caught by Zakir Hasan at forward short-leg. The opening session was somewhat similar before Jaiswal and Pant did some repair work after the hosts were reduced to 34/3. Bangladesh, who won the toss and invited India to bat, got off to strong start with Hasan leading the charge. The seamer rocked the Indian top-order as Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli fell cheaply. Rohit was caught at second slip for 6, Gill failed to open his account, while Kohli was caught-behind for run a ball 6.
