Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that the government will install 50,000 CCTV cameras across the national capital to ensure the safety and security of people, particularly women, according to officials on Tuesday.

The chief minister, while interacting with student representatives of women’s colleges on Monday, highlighted various steps taken by the government, including removal of dark spots, street lights, regular police patrolling, and deployment of female police personnel on campuses, to address women’s safety issues, they said. Addressing CCTV-related concerns raised by elected representatives of Delhi University colleges, she said 50,000 new CCTV cameras are proposed to be installed across Delhi.

Proper functioning of these cameras will be backed by Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) to ensure regular maintenance and upkeep, she said.
