Delhi court grants Swatantra Bhardwaj interim bail for 3 weeks

A Delhi Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Swatantra Bhardwaj in an alleged assault case relating to father of a teenage Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activist during Jantar Mantar protest in July. Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler of Patiala House Courts passed the order and granted interim bail of three weeks to Bhardwaj.

Yesterday, the Court decided to conduct in camera proceedings after it was informed that two FIRs have been registered against Bhardwaj under SC/ST Act and POCSO Act. The judge was informed that Bhardwaj was arrested under SC/ST Act FIR and not under the POCSO Act case.

The Delhi High Court recently rejected Bhardwaj’s habeas corpus plea challenging his arrest. Bhardwaj was detained in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr on Friday, hours after the CJP staged a protest outside the Parliament Street police station demanding his arrest in the
matter.
