The flood situation in Assam has improved over the past few days, but the crisis is far from over. The death toll has risen to 68 after two more people died, while more than 5.24 lakh people are still affected across five districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). According to the ASDMA, more than 5.24 lakh people are currently affected in Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts. Charaideo remains the worst-hit district, with nearly 1.9 lakh people affected. It is followed by Sivasagar with over 1.5 lakh affected residents, while around 1.4 lakh people continue to face flooding in Jorhat.

The death toll reached 68 after two people drowned in floodwaters in Charaideo district during the last 24 hours. The latest fatalities were confirmed by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority in its bulletin issued on Sunday.

The flood situation has shown signs of improvement compared to the previous day. On Saturday, nearly 6.55 lakh people across six districts were affected, while the latest figures show that the number has reduced to over 5.24 lakh people across five districts.
