Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele scored two goals in the span of six minutes to give France a 2-0 victory over Morocco in their quarter-final at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Earlier in the first half, Mbappe had missed a penalty as the France vs Morocco remained goalless at half-time in Boston. Mbappe had also earned the penalty, but could only manage a tame spot kick that was saved the Moroccan keeper.
With the goal, Mbappe joined Lionel Messi at the top of the Golden Boot race with eight goals. Erling Haaland is one goal behind them. Mbappe was also the Golden Boot winner at the last World Cup in Qatar 2022.
The quarter-final encounter comes four years after they met in a mouthwatering World Cup semi-final in Qatar 2022. Morocco, still carrying the hurt of that semi-final defeat, are hoping to stop the all-conquering French side this time around.
France are bidding to become only the third country to reach the final of three successive FIFA World Cups, joining Germany and Brazil. Morocco was the first African team to make it to the World Cup semi-finals in 2022.
