The Delhi government has approved the first phase of its proposed Elevated Ring Road project, paving the way for two new bridges across the Yamuna. The initial corridor will extend from Metcalfe House to the DND Flyway near Ashram.
Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma said the project will be constructed above the existing 55 km Ring Road and implemented in six phases. The first three packages have already secured approval.
Officials said the opening phase will span roughly 25 km and be divided into three stretches — from Azadpur Chowk to Metcalfe House, Majnu Ka Tila to Salimgarh Fort, and Salimgarh Fort to the DND Flyway.
A key feature of the project is the construction of two new Yamuna crossings. One bridge is proposed near Chandgi Ram Akhara, close to Metcalfe House, and is expected to strengthen connectivity with north-east Delhi, ITO and Mayur Vihar while also allowing future integration with the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
