Noida Erupts: Car Torched, Stones Hurled As Pay Hike Protest Turns Violent

Hundreds of workers in Noida and Greater Noida have taken to the streets, protesting against alleged delays and discrepancies in salary hikes. Tensions flared high on Monday (April 13) in Phase 2 as the protest turned violent, with vehicles torched, stones pelted, and properties vandalised. A heavy police presence was deployed to bring the situation under control. The incident comes days after scores of contractual workers working across multiple companies in IMT Manesar, Gurugram, vandalised police vehicles, set a police motorcycle on fire, and also clashed with cops during a protest seeking higher wages.

The demonstrations also impacted traffic in Sector 62, causing heavy congestion and disrupting daily commuters. Employees blocked key roads connecting Sector 62 to Sector 16 and to NH-9, climbed onto dividers, and raised slogans. Police teams reached the spot and tried to manage the situation, but the large crowd led to severe movement restrictions in the area. Many office-goers faced delays as traffic came to a near standstill.

Workers claim that companies have failed to meet expectations regarding increment, overtime pay, and job security despite rising inflation. The protest, which began as a wage-related demand, has now spread across multiple industrial areas in Noida and Greater Noida.
