Delhi is set to witness a major upgrade in its transport infrastructure by December 2026, as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the progress of ongoing metro, road, and flyover projects in the capital.
She emphasised that developing a modern and efficient public transport system is a top priority for the government, aimed at reducing traffic congestion, making daily travel smoother, and lowering pollution levels across the city.
During a high-level meeting held at the Delhi Secretariat, senior officials, including the Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, were present. The discussion focused on improving coordination between metro expansion and road infrastructure so that the overall transport system becomes more effective.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the Delhi Metro network currently spans 416 kilometres, with 303 stations, 12 lines, and 32 interchange stations. In addition, 104.45 kilometres of new metro lines and 81 stations are under construction. The Phase-IV expansion is progressing steadily, with physical progress reaching nearly 80 percent and financial progress also crossing the 80 percent mark.
