Janata Dal (United) president Nitish Kumar on Thursday (November 20, 2025) took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record 10th time in a grand ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J.P. Nadda, and a host of other National Democratic Alliance leaders. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 74-year-old leader.
Besides Mr. Kumar, 26 Cabinet Ministers also took oath, of whom 14 were from the BJP, eight from the JD(U), two from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and one each from Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).
The NDA government has inducted nine new faces into the Cabinet, including the LJP(RV)’s Sanjay Kumar Singh, who defeated Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad’s son Tej Pratap Yadav in the Mahua Assembly constituency. The new Cabinet features only one Muslim representative and three women.
Over a dozen Ministers were dropped, including Nitish Mishra, who as Industries Minister was considered one of the best-performing members in the previous Cabinet, having played a key role in attracting record investment proposals to the State. Mr. Mishra had won with a margin of more than 50,000 votes from Jhanjharpur.
