In a telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom Thursday reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the longstanding ties between the two nations.
Recalling the historic partnership between India and the UK, both leaders expressed their mutual desire to bolster the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that has guided their diplomatic and economic relationship.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “It was a pleasure to speak with HM King Charles III today. Reaffirmed commitment to bolster India-UK ties. Exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including the Commonwealth, climate action and sustainability. Wished him good health and wellbeing.”
The conversation touched on several important matters of international concern, including the Commonwealth of Nations and the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa. The leaders exchanged views on how to advance cooperation within the Commonwealth.
Climate change and sustainability also featured prominently in the discussions, with Modi praising the King’s longstanding advocacy for environmental issues. King Charles III has been a vocal proponent of sustainability and climate action, and Prime Minister Modi briefed him on India’s own ambitious initiatives to combat climate change, including the country’s goals for renewable energy and emission reductions.
