Protest over power distribution disrupts MCD session

Chaos erupted in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as BJP councillors staged a protest against proposals set to be discussed during the session.

The contentious topic at hand was the transfer of power from the standing committee to the general house on a temporary basis and pending formation of the committee.

Before the session could officially commence, chaos ensued, resulting in its swift adjournment.

An hour prior, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Raja Iqbal Singh and BJP councillors submitted a letter to the Mayor, urging a reconsideration of the proposal.

The LoP emphasized the constitutional obligations of the party and expressed concern about the sanctity of the Municipal Corporation’s constitution.

Following a four-hour drama, two proposals, including the transfer of power from the standing committee to the house and the de-sealing of shops at local shopping complexes were passed amidst the chaos.

Singh disclosed that BJP councillors had met with the Commissioner of MCD, submitting a memorandum urging the withdrawal of the perceived “unlawful” agenda.
