A significant earthquake, initially measured at 7.4 magnitude, struck the north-central region of Japan on Monday, as reported by NHK, the public broadcaster. Following the quake, the Japan Meteorological Agency released a tsunami warning for the coastal areas of Ishikawa, Niigata, and Toyama prefectures.
NHK reported that the tsunami warning advised immediate evacuation from coastal
regions due to anticipated waves reaching heights of up to 5 meters.
In response to the seismic event, Hokuriku Electric Power is conducting inspections to
ensure the safety and normal operation of its nuclear power facilities, as stated in an
NHK report.
