Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has said that it is a matter of regret that today when the people of Delhi are struggling with the problem of pollution, due to the negligence of the Delhi Government, more than Rs 710 crore collected from commercial vehicles in the form of environment cess in Delhi is lying unused.
In true sense, out of the Rs 1481 crore received from pollution cess till July 2023, not even a single rupee has been spent on any direct cause of pollution.
The Rs 781 crore spent was also given as Delhi Government’s share in the Rapid Rail Project under the pressure of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. More than Rs 710 crore is still lying unused.
If the Kejriwal government had acted with vision, it could have used this money to improve the dilapidated roads of Delhi and plant trees on the roadside, which would have reduced dust pollution.
If the Kejriwal government wanted, it could have given this money to the farmers of Punjab through the Punjab state government and bought the stubble which could have stopped its burning, which is a major cause of pollution not only in Delhi but entire North India.
