Cleanliness drives being undertaken by them on Swachhta Diwas next month should have more substance instead of mere content in the form of photos and videos for their social media accounts, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva is said to have cautioned the party’s state unit, according to party insiders.

Observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas or Swachhta Diwas to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on October 2 since 2014, the occasion sees politicians and citizens alike taking to the streets to perform tasks ranging from sweeping to garbage collection for the larger cause of cleanliness.

“Sachdeva has issued directions to the party’s office bearers in charge of districts down to smaller divisions to perform whatever sanitation-related task they undertake as part of the occasion seriously and not just for the sake of photo-ops,” a senior leader aware of the instructions said.

“The state unit, down to the ground level, has been directed to stick to one stretch, location or spot and work on its cleanliness or sanitation dedicatedly instead of hopping from one to the other for the sake of pictures or videos for their social media,” the leader added.
