By India Today Sports Desk: Barcelona, the reigning Spanish league champions, will commence their title defence with an away fixture against Getafe on August 13, as confirmed by the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) on Thursday. Meanwhile, arch-rivals Real Madrid will kick off their campaign with an away match against Athletic Bilbao during the same weekend.
The highly anticipated first El Clasico clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid, will take place at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium on matchday 11, scheduled for October 29. This unique venue was chosen due to the ongoing renovation work at Barcelona’s Camp Nou. The two powerhouses of Spanish football will face each other once again at the Santiago Bernabeu on matchday 32, set to be held on the weekend of April 21, 2024
As the LaLiga season nears its climax, the final weekend promises to be a thrilling spectacle. Barcelona will face Europa League champions Sevilla in an away fixture, while Real Madrid will host Real Betis. Additionally, Real Sociedad, a prominent Champions League side, will host Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, setting the stage for a captivating end to the season.
The La Liga also announced that there will be no matches on New Year’s Eve, as the Christmas break will run from December 20 until January 2, allowing players and staff a well-deserved holiday period.
The Spanish Super Cup, taking place in Saudi Arabia, is scheduled for January 10-14, featuring the participation of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Osasuna, and Atletico Madrid. Following this, the Copa del Rey will kick off on November 1, with the final slated for April 6 at La Cartuja stadium in Seville.
