India at Asian Games 2026: Compound swept, world record equalled and LA 2028 quota secured in gold rush

So that brings us to the end of a golden day for India at the Asian Games 2026, with the country adding seven medals – four gold and three bronze – to its tally.

Compound archers led the charge, sweeping all three team titles, while a historic Olympic quota, an Asian record and four more medals made for a day to remember.

India’s compound archers were simply unstoppable. The women’s team successfully defended its title and equalled the world record in the process.

The compound mixed team then won gold in a dramatic shoot-off that helped India not just retain the title but also secured a quota for LA 2028, where the event will make its Olympic debut. The compound sweep was completed by the men’s team.

Shooting added another gold to the haul as India’s golden girl Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai triumphed in the mixed team trap and set a new Asian record along the way.

Boxing contributed two more bronze medals after Priya Ghanghas and Kapil Pokhariya lost in the semi-final. Lovlina Borgohain, meanwhile, reached the women’s 75kg final and assured at least a silver.

Wrestling also got on the medal board on its opening day as Sunil Kumar won bronze in the men’s Greco-Roman 87kg category.

There was more medal news in squash, with both Indian teams assuring podium finishes after comfortably winning their quarter-final encounters.

And the women’s hockey team kept its gold-medal dream alive after beating South Korea 2-0 to reach the final.

The finish line is now getting closer in Aichi-Nagoya, but there is still plenty more action and medals to come, with the cricket semi-finals and two India vs Pakistan on the cards tomorrow. See you then!
