Around 20 lakh people living in Delhi’s unauthorised jhuggi-jhopdi (JJ) clusters moved a step closer to rehabilitation after the Delhi government on Tuesday (June 23, 2026) approved the implementation of the revised cut-off date of January 1, 2025, instead of the earlier cut-off of January 1, 2015, under the Delhi Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2026, officials said.
The decision was taken at a Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, following which her office issued a release quoting her as saying, “The decision will open the door to permanent housing for around 4-5 lakh families, or nearly 20 lakh people, living in various JJ clusters across Delhi.
