Iran says Hormuz reopening ‘impossible’ amid US blockade

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on April 22 accused the US of violating the ceasefire through a maritime blockade, signalling that peace talks can proceed only if the truce is fully upheld. He warned that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be “impossible” if the breach continues.

A complete ceasefire only makes sense if it is not violated by the maritime blockade and the hostage-taking of the world’s economy, and if the Zionist warmongering across all fronts is halted; reopening the Strait of Hormuz is impossible with such a flagrant breach of the ceasefire,” Ghalibaf said in a post on X.

The speaker added that the US failed to achieve its goal via “military aggression” and the only way forward is to recognise Iran’s rights.

“They did not achieve their goals through military aggression, nor will they through bullying. The only way forward is to recognize the rights of the Iranian nation,” he added.

The remarks were made a day after US President Donald Trump announced an indefinite ceasefire after Iran failed to accept US proposals for negotiations.
