An LPG tanker sailing under the Indian flag arrived at Mundra Port in Gujarat on Monday after passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, bringing a fresh consignment of cooking gas to the country amid supply concerns linked to tensions in West Asia.
The 18-year-old LPG carrier “Shivalik” brought 46,000 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo for Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) after passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Of the total cargo, around 20,000 MT will be discharged at Mundra, while the remaining 26,000 MT will be transported onward to New Mangalore Port for unloading, according to an Adani Group spokesperson.
The arrival of the vessel was also announced in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly by state cabinet minister Jitu Vaghani. Last week, another LPG vessel — BW Pampero — had also berthed at Deendayal Port, Kandla and unloaded 23400 MT of cargo, although the origin of that shipment was not known. Meanwhile, another LPG tanker, “Nanda Devi”, built in 2001 and sailing under the Indian flag, has also crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is expected to arrive at Vadinar Port on Tuesday with its cargo.
