After calling the Budget 2026 “lacklustre”, Rahul Gandhi is set to lead the Opposition charge in the Parliament today. The Lok Sabha will be holding a discussion on the Union Budget 2026-27 on Monday.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget 2026-27 on Sunday where she announced a nearly 9% rise in Capital Exenditure for the next financial year, increasing the allocation to Rs 12.2 lakh crore in this year’s budget. She said that the higher capital expenditure was meant to keep infrastructure projects moving and support overall economic growth.
The BJP on Sunday said the budget shows a clear push towards building a ‘developed’ India and criticised the Opposition for calling it weak and empty. The party said it does not need approval from its critics and claimed that people continue to place their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Opposition, however, rejected these claims. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said the budget fails to address the country’s real crises. Congress MP and party general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal also called the budget completely hollow.
