West Delhi gets major infra push with Rs 64-crore project

In a major infrastructure push for West Delhi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 64-crore road strengthening and drainage project on the busy Nangloi–Najafgarh Road.

The project is expected to bring long-awaited relief from waterlogging, traffic congestion and pollution for lakhs of commuters and residents. It is aimed at making the arterial stretch monsoon-proof by way of comprehensive drainage upgrade, road reconstruction, besides footpaths and central verge development.

Officials said the initiative would significantly improve traffic flow, reduce dust pollution and prevent sewage and rainwater overflow during the monsoon season.

Calling the occasion historic, LG Saxena said the project fulfilled a decades-old demand of residents of Nangloi and Najafgarh, who have endured poor road conditions and overflowing drains for years. He recalled visiting the area in September 2024, when roads were badly damaged and sewage flowed on roads. A concrete action had begun after years of neglect, the LG said.
