In a significant step towards environmental protection and climate action, the Delhi Government on Tuesday approved the implementation of a Carbon Credit Monetisation Framework, enabling the national capital to generate revenue from its green initiatives. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, with Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa present.
The CM said, “Delhi’s ‘green projects’ will add to the state exchequer through carbon credits.” She further asserted, “Delhi will emerge as the country’s leading state in leveraging the carbon market.”
Under the newly approved framework, the Delhi Government will monetise emission reductions achieved through various environment-friendly projects by selling carbon credits in national and international markets. These include electric bus operations, large-scale plantation drives, promotion of solar energy and waste management initiatives, all of which contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
