S.B.K. Singh gets charge as Delhi Police Commissioner

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday (July 31, 2025) appointed Director General of Home Guards, S.B.K. Singh, as the acting Commissioner of Delhi Police.

According to an order issued on Thursday, Mr. Singh will assume additional charge of the post from August 1, following the end of tenure of the incumbent police commissioner, Sanjay Arora, who retires today.

Mr. Singh is a 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the AGMUT cadre. He has been serving as the Director General of Home Guards and will now oversee the Delhi Police until a formal appointment is made or further orders are issued.

In a career spanning over 36 years, Mr. Singh has held several pivotal positions in the Delhi Police and also served as the head of police forces in two northeastern states — Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.

An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, Singh joined the Indian Police Service after graduation in 1986.

He later completed an MBA with a specialisation in Human Resource Management. His policing career reflects a rare blend of field experience, administrative innovation, and technological foresight.
