Hello and welcome to India Today’s coverage of the Indian Premier League. We are at Wankhede where Mumbai Indians take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their third game of the season. This is MI’s first home game in the 2025 season, as they still look to open their account. A slow start is nothing new for Mumbai, but several concerns in the line-up bug them at the moment.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, it was a star debut from 23-year-old Ashwani Kumar in his 4/24 spell ( a new Indian record in IPL) that played a key role in thumping KKR, and bundling them for just 116 runs.
While the youngster was on fire at Wankhede, he got brilliant support from the rest of the MI bowling unit – especially from the likes of Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and even Mitchell Santner.
In their run-chase, Ryan Rickleton took matters into his own hands with his 62 off 41 balls knock, despite Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal. Suryakumar Yadav gave the finishing blow to KKR with his 27 off 9 balls knock.
The gold has glittered at Wankhede, and it’s with the blue shade of the home side. A commanding win for Mumbai Indians as they get off the mark on the points table with a big win. KKR will be going back to the drawing board to reassess their strategies and come back strongly in their next outing when they host SRH at home, a couple of days later. Well then, that is a wrap from this classic clash. But worry not, games come thick and fast in the IPL as we move into the new month of 2025.citing build-up. But from here, we take your leave. Take care, cheers!
