Kunal’s jokes on Eknath Shinde spark row, Sena workers vandalise venue

Comedian Kunal Kamra’s jibe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for switching sides, made during a recent stand-up show, has sparked massive controversy, with Shiv Sena targeting him through threats and a police complaint. As the row intensified following the viral video, Shiv Sena workers vandalised a hotel in Mumbai where the show was recorded, and an FIR has been filed against Kamra.

A group of Shiv Sena workers reached the hotel in Mumbai’s Khar, where Kunal Kamra’s stand-up video was recorded, vandalised the property, and ransacked the premises.

Calling it a “conspiracy to malign Shinde”, the Shiv Sena has lodged a police complaint against Kamra, Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Sanjay Raut and Aaditya Thackeray, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

During a recent show titled Naya Bharat, where he extensively discussed contemporary politics, Kamra took a dig at Shinde for splitting the party and aligning with the BJP and labelled him a ‘traitor’. A clip from the show shared by Kamra himself showed him singing a spoof song of Dil To Pagal Hai, referring to “a leader from Thane,” making remarks about Shinde’s physical appearance and his equation with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. However, Kamra did not explicitly name Shinde in the clip.
