External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has been invited to represent the Government of India at the swearing-in ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on January 20. Mr. Trump has invited several heads of government and heads of state to be present at the event, and the subsequent celebrations to be held in Washington D.C.
“On the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent the Governemnt of India at the Swearing-in Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday (January 12, 2025).
Mr. Jaishankar visited the U.S. from December 24-29, when he met with officials from the Biden administration, and also met with Congressman Michael Waltz, who has been chosen by Mr. Trump to be his next National Security Adviser (NSA). The swearing-in ceremony of the second Trump administration has been of much global interest since it came to light that Chinese President Xi Jinping has been invited to participate in the event.
