Senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur on Monday released a “chargesheet” against Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and accused its national convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of turning the Capital into a “laboratory of corruption” through multiple scams.
Hitting back, Mr. Kejriwal said the BJP’s sole strategy seems to be targeting him as it lacks a chief ministerial face and any meaningful agenda for the Delhi Assembly poll due in February next year.
“The AAP government has delivered on key promises such as free electricity, water, bus travel for women and improved roads while the law and order under the BJP’s Central government is in complete disarray in Delhi, with gangsters roaming freely,” he said in a statement.
However, Mr. Thakur claimed that under AAP’s 10-year rule, lakhs of children “lost access to education”.
“The list of wounds inflicted on Delhi by Arvind Kejriwal and AAP is long. AAP, which promised to root out corruption, has instead looted Delhi. Kejriwal, who promised world-class schools, has left over two lakh children without access to education,” said Mr. Thakur.
“The pledge to provide 24-hour clean water has remained unfulfilled as people are drinking contaminated water and relying on tankers,” he alleged. He also accused AAP of making “false promises” of transforming the Capital, which he said is currently battling higher pollution levels and the lack of health facilities.
