Centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith rendered the India bowling attack, barring Jasprit Bumrah, ineffective for the entirety of day two. While seamer Akash Deep bowled impressively without reward, Head and Smith took the game away from the Indians even as Bumrah returned yet another five-wicket haul. The Aussie duo put on a defining 241-run partnership as Australia went past 400 against India for the first time in a home Test since 2015.
