The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering fielding former MP Parvesh Verma from the New Delhi assembly seat to give a “tough” fight to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, viewing the 2025 assembly polls as an opportunity to regain the reins of the national capital, ThePrint has learnt.
“He is a young, dynamic leader and if he is fielded from the New Delhi constituency he will definitely give a tough fight to Kejriwal. He [Kejriwal] will not be able to concentrate on other seats for campaigning,” a Delhi BJP leader said, talking about the party’s strategy.
Kejriwal has represented the New Delhi assembly seat since 2013.
Verma represented the West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency from 2014 till 2019 and also won from Mehrauli in the 2013 assembly elections. His father Sahib Singh Verma served as the chief minister of Delhi between 1996 and 1998.
