External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Pakistan’s Islamabad on Tuesday to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on Wednesday.

Jaishankar and Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif exchanged pleasantries during dinner reception for SCO delegates in Islamabad on Wednesday evening, news agency reported.

They warmly shook hands and held a very brief interaction. The Pakistan prime minister greeted all the leaders of the delegations of the SCO member nations.

This is the first high-level visit from India in years amid continuing strain in ties between the two neighbours.

He landed at the Nur Khan Airbase where he was received by the Director General South Asia Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, the Pakistani foreign office said in a social media post.
