The Central Bureau of Investigation questioned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, recording his statement in connection with the excise policy case, according to CBI sources. The agency was also granted permission to produce the Delhi CM before the concerned trial court on Wednesday (June 26). Although Kejriwal has not been arrested yet, as per sources from the Aam Aadmi Party, the CBI is likely to request for his custody before the trial court judge tomorrow.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday had stayed the regular bail granted by trial court to Kejriwal in the excise policy case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate, stating that the lower court did not “apply its mind” while passing the order. A single judge bench of Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain passed the order while hearing ED’s application seeking stay of trial court order which had granted bail to Kejriwal on June 20. Following this, AAP said that they do not agree with the verdict, adding that they would challenge it in the Supreme Court. A day earlier, the Supreme Court had said it will wait for the High Court verdict and Kejriwal’s plea against the HC move on June 26.
