India have defeated Australia by 24 runs. With this victory, India are through to the semi-finals as the Super 8 Group 1 toppers. Australia, meanwhile, are on the verge of elimination.
What does this victory mean? That, India have qualified as the toppers of Group 1. What’s the advantage? In case the semi-final against England – on 27 June at Guyana – is washed out, India will qualify for the final by virtue of being the group toppers. And, England fans wouldn’t want to hear this, but it is very likely that the semi-final contest will be a rain-affected one.
We will bring you all live updates from that semi-final. Till then, good night!
Indians can start celebrating now. This match is all but done. Matthew Wade edges an Arshdeep Singh delivery and finds Kuldeep Yadav taking a brilliant diving catch at short third. Later in the over, Tim David edges a delivery too, and finds Jasprit Bumrah at short third.
Jasprit Bumrah concedes 10 runs in his last over. Australia now need 29 runs from 6 deliveries. However, they don’t have a Rinku Singh in their team.
This could be the last nail in Australia’s coffin! Travis Head has to depart, and Jasprit Bumrah has nearly secured the win for India. Head mistimes a slower delivery and Rohit Sharma takes a catch at cover.
