India’s Olympic and world champion javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra secured the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Paavo Nurmi Games, a World Athletics Continental Tour event, held in Turku, Finland on Tuesday (June 18). After beginning with a throw of 83.62m in the first round, Neeraj got it better in the third round with 85.97m.

Chopra, who secured the silver in 2022, launched an impressive throw of 85.97m in his third attempt to dominate the competition.

Among the contenders was 19-year-old German talent Max Dehning, the youngest member of the 90m club. Local favorite Toni Keranen captured the silver medal with a best throw of 84.19m, while Oliver Helander, last year’s gold medalist from Finland, secured third place with 83.96m.

Chopra, 26, entered the event after finishing second in the Doha Diamond League and securing gold at the Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar last month.
