Questioning the silence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the matter, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Tuesday said proceedings related to the alleged assault on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal would reach their logical conclusion soon.
The ruling AAP reacted to the development saying that it proved that Maliwal “was working for the BJP”.
In a statement, which was also posted on X, Saxena said Arvind Kejriwal’s silence on the matter was “deafening” and his stance “evasive and dodgy”. “I would have expected that at least for the sake of propriety, my CM would have come clean, rather than being evasive and dodgy. His deafening silence speaks volumes of his stance on the safety of women,” he said even as he questioned what repercussions such “shameful incidents” occurring in the Capital had on the country’s image given that the entire global diplomatic community lived in the city.
“Such shameful incidents and the insensitive and conspiratorial contemptuous government response, on an issue of women safety, tarnishes India’s image worldwide…The absence of any outrage in this case leaves several questions unanswered,” he said adding that the Delhi Police were investigating the matter with the added assurance that it “will be brought to its logical conclusion.
