MS Dhoni’s Cameo in Vain as Delhi Capitals Win by 20 Runs

Rishabh Pant hit a much-awaited fifty after David Warner’s well-constructed 52 to set up Delhi Capitals’ convincing 20-run win over Chennai Super Kings for whom veteran MS Dhoni’s vintage knock was not enough to cross the line in their IPL match here Sunday. Faced with a tough 192-run target, the Super Kings tried to scale it down through Ajinkya Rahane (45), Dhoni (37 not out) and Daryl Mitchell (34) but the Capitals carried far too many guns for them on the night. CSK ended up at 171 for six.

Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant(w/c), Tristan Stubbs, Abishek Porel, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed.

The crowds were surely treated with a show during those last few overs. But CSK in general will not be happy with the way they went about the chase. Rishabh Pant on the other hand will be pleased with the pair of Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar for delivering with the ball to help the Delhi Capitals their first points of the season.

Anrich Nortje who is brought into the attack concedes the boundary to begin the over. Was the full and wide-yorker which is clobbered towards the covers for four runs. Dhoni takes a page of Pant’s shot and goes for the one-handed swing and times it well for the maximum towards the mid-wicket region for six runs. Dhoni then goes for another. He is standing deep in his crease and gets it above the mid-on for the boundary. In the final delivery, Dhoni goes big once again and finds the maximum towards the point boundary.
