A Delhi court has sent Bharat Rashtriya Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha to judicial custody till April 9 in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy case. The Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, while sending her to Tihar Jail for 14 days has also fixed hearing on interim bail plea for 1 April.
Earlier in the day, ED told Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court had said that further custodial interrogation of BRS leader K Kavitha is not required. The BRS leader’s counsel had also sought interim bail on the grounds of her son’s exams, news agency reported.
The ED produced K Kavitha before the Rouse Avenue court at the conclusion of her custody in the excise case. The central probe agency arrested the 46-year-old on March 15.
While speaking to reporters before entering the court, Kavitha said, “This is not a money laundering case but a political laundering case. It is a fabricated and false case. We will come out clean. It is an illegal case. We will fight it out. Jai Telangana”.
Kavitha is the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. ED alleged that she was a key member of the ‘South Group’, which has been accused of paying the AAP kickbacks of ₹100 crore in return for a big share of liquor licences in the national capital. She was arrested on March 15 after a search operation at her residence.
