Newly appointed Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad-led squad opened the IPL 2024 tournament on a winning note, as they defeated Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets in the IPL 2024 opener at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.

CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman was announced ‘Player of the Match’ for picking up 4 wickets against RCB in the TATA IPL 2024 opener match. 

Chasing 174 runs against RCB in the IPL 2024 opener, and CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad  (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) gave a good start. After their dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Daryl Mitchell (22) too played really well. But, the icing on the cake was the performances of Shivam Dube (*34) and Ravindra Jadeja (*25) which led the defending champions to beat RCB by 6 wickets. 

For RCB, Cameron Green picked two wickets, while Yash Dayal and Karn Sharma picked up one wicket each. 

Earlier in the day, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bat first at in the IPL 2024 opener.

After winning the toss, RCB lost quick 5 wickets, as CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman picked up 4 wickets in the IPL 2024 opener at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. RCB managed to score 173/6 in 20 overs.
