After rebranding Twitter to X, Elon to auction blue bird logo

Twitter is long gone, welcome X. That’s Elon Musk’s vision for the social media company moving forward. It appears Musk truly wants to move away from the company’s old identity under Jack Dorsey and later Parag Agrawal’s leadership. Under his watch, he wants nothing to do with Twitter, but it’s all about X. Recently, the company temporarily placed a giant X logo atop the HQ in San Francisco. Most of the Twitter branding on the website is also gone. For instance, Twitter Blue is now X Premium.

Now, Musk is selling old Twitter items, including several blue bird memorabilia. Auctions are also a great way to raise money moving forward, as the X-owner did back in January 2023.

X is again partnering with auctioneers Heritage Global Partners to sell their old stuff. The website notes that bidding for “Twitter Rebranding: Online Auction Featuring Memorabilia” starts on September 12 and ends on September 14. X is auctioning over 600 items. Some of the items include the Twitter Bird Wood Coffee table, the Twitter Bid Neon Marquee Light sign, Blue Room Neon Sign, the Hashtag Marquee light, and even some acoustic guitars. Other items include kitchen appliances, office furniture, and iMacs.

Moreover, X is also auctioning a painting of Ellen DeGeneres’s 2014 Oscar selfie with Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep and Lupita Nyong’o is also up for auction. The selfie broke retweeting records even led the platform to crash for a moment. The selfie on Twitter generated 80,000 retweets in three minutes and over one million in less than an hour. Bidding for most items starts from $25, which will naturally increase once the bids come in.

Earlier this year, Elon Musk auctioned similar Twitter office items at a time the company was raising money and cutting costs through mass layoffs and office shutdowns. One of the Twitter blue bird memorabilia fetched around $100,000 (Rs 82 lakhs) at the auction. Other office items were also sold for a large sum.

Following rebranding Twitter to X, Musk said that he wants the app to transform into a new platform for “everything.” Twitter already lets paid members post long posts (like a blog) and upload long videos. The company is even exploring the idea of incorporating digital payment solutions. Recently, the company started an ad revenue-sharing programme with several users on the platform. Some Indian users also received compensation tuning to over Rs 1 lakh for their tweets, or rather, X posts.
