In order to maintain the ambient air quality level through the G20 Summit in the capital city, the Delhi government has decided to deploy a special 30 mobile teams of Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) till the completion of the Summit on September 9 and 10.

According to officials, the key objective of these mobile teams will be to maintain that no pollution causing activities take place around the vicinity of the Pragati Maidan where the summit will be held. The areas where foreign delegates are expected to visit during the summit also fall under this ambit.

“Any kind of pollution causing activities like burning garbage in large amounts, lack of safety precautions at construction site, vehicular pollution, two wheelers plying heavy noise pollution and others will be taken strictly. Challans will be issued on the spot,” said a government official.

Lieutenant-Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena who is closely monitoring the G20 preparations in Delhi has directed the 30 teams of DPCC to be constantly be on the ground till the conclusion of the event, officials said. Any violation caught by these teams will be prosecuted on the spot.

The L-G He also held a review meeting recently and directed all the departments to expedite the projects and complete them within the set deadline before the Summit.

Further, PWD and MCD have been told to have a contingency plan to tackle waterlogging in case there is heavy rain in the national capital. Equipment such as tractor-mounted heavy duty pumps, suction machines and spray jets among others have been asked to be put on standby to address emergency situations.

The District Monitoring Committees comprise a senior IAS officer who is designated as the coordinator followed by the respective DMs, DCPs, DCs (MCD)/Secretary NDMC and Chief Engineer (DDA). These Committees were earlier asked to conduct a gap analysis of shortcomings in their jurisdiction. The gaps were then to be addressed with the help of the concerned departments including PWD, Delhi Metro, Environment & Forests, Irrigation & Food Control, Delhi Jal Board, DIAL and DISCOMS.

About 61 important roads including the venue outside ITPO and 21 hotels associated with the Summit, spread over seven districts in the capital, are being monitored by the L-G for their makeovers and maintenance. Of these, 36 roads and 17 hotels are located in the New Delhi district while South-West district has two roads and one hotel

The seven districts where such projects are located include New Delhi, South East, South, Central, Shahdara, South West and East. In addition to this, the remaining four districts – North, West, North West and North East have also identified a few projects of similar nature.
