As heavy rainfall in most parts of north India, including Himachal Pradesh,
Delhi and Uttarakhand wreaked havoc, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with
senior ministers and officials and took stock of the situation. In a tweet, Prime
Minister’s Office said that local administrations, National Disaster Response Force
(NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are working to ensure the
well-being of those affected.
“PM @narendramodi spoke to senior ministers and officials, and took stock of the
situation in the wake of excessive rainfall in parts of India. Local administrations, NDRF
and SDRF teams are working to ensure the well-being of those affected,” the Prime
Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a tweet.
Incessant rainfall in many parts of north India has caused a flood-like situation and
also led to a rise in several rivers in north India, including the Yamuna in Delhi and
Beas in Himachal Pradesh.
In Delhi-NCR region, heavy rains led to water-logging in many residential areas with
the civic system unable to hold on in the face of record rains on Sunday. Chief
Minister Arvind Kejriwal chaired a meeting in views of rising water level in Yamuna
and incessant rainfall in the city.
In Himachal Pradesh, ‘heavy to extremely heavy’ rains battered the hill state on
Sunday, causing landslides and flash floods, inundating many areas, washing away
roads, vehicles and houses and killing six persons. In the past 48 hours over 30
houses, 22 major landslides and 17 flash floods have been reported and over 30
houses have been completely and partially damaged. Water level of all major rivers
including Ravi, Beas, Satluj, Swan and Chenab has risen.
