Road at PWD minister Atishi’s house flooded, BJP delhi chief takes a swipe

Delhi BJP leaders Sunday criticised the Arvind Kejriwal government in the national capital over waterlogging in the city for the second consecutive day after heavy rains and demanded resignation of Public Works Department (PWD) minister Atishi.

Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi BJP president said the city is flooded due to poor infrastructure development under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The Delhi BJP president twitted in Hindi, “While Rome was burning, Nero was playing the flute!”

Delhi has been submerged, due to corruption of Arvind Kejriwal. People are facing problems in the national capital but he is on political tours to other states.

He further said it is “shameful” that even as entire Delhi is flooded and people are experiencing hardships, Kejriwal chose to go to Haryana for “political campaigning”.

“Corruption in the Kejriwal government is so rampant that the bungalow of PWD Minister Atishi on the recently renovated Mathura Road has been submerged,” Sachdeva tweeted along with a video that shows the front area of Atishi’s home.

The road in front of the official residence of Delhi minister Atishi was flooded after two days of heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the PWD minister is going on rounds of the city to meet engineers and inspect flooded areas.

“Rain has broken the record of decades. Due to such a torrential rain, Ring Road near ITO is flooded despite having a pumping station,” Atishi tweeted in Hindi.

She said she has asked engineers to increase the number of pumps to drain out a larger volume water faster from the area.

Delhi has been witnessing severe rainfall since Saturday. Water logging, as many as 15 houses collapsing and one person’s death has been reported by Delhi Fire Service. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecast high-intensity rain for 2-3 days in Delhi.

“This week, North-West India, including Delhi, will witness rain, the intensity of the rain will be high for 2-3 days, and the intensity will reduce after that. There will be some relief from the heat during this period,” said Charan Singh, Head of IMD, Delhi.

IMD has forecast “Isolated Heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, J-K during 08th-10th; East Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Punjab during 08th-09thJuly.”

The downpour wreaked havoc as arterial roads, parks, underpasses, markets, and even schools and hospitals were inundated.

Visuals emerged of from several sectors inDelh iwhich witnessed heavy downpour.

The IMD said a western disturbance prevailed over northern India, leading to an intense spell of rain yesterday, including Delhi which experienced the season’s first heavy rain.

Waterlogging led to traffic jams in several parts of the national capital. The city recorded 153 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, highest in single day in July since 1982
